Titta vad jag hittade på Åhléns!
Skyltdockan till höger påminner ju faktiskt om en riktig människas storlek. Så fint! Hon är fortfarande smal, men det ser hälsosamt ut. I like.
På H&M däremot såg jag idag en helt sinnessjukt smal skyltdocka, glömde fota den, men usch. Helt fruktansvärt, midjan var typ som mina smalben.
My photo above received international attention in middle of March 2013 after the Facebook page Women’s Rights News somehow found the image and posted it on their Facebook wall. Several Facebook pages followed, and in total, the photo of the Swedish Mannequin from department store Åhléns has been liked over 1,4 million times on Facebook by now! It has also been mentioned in news articles around the world. Please read the background and story and more about the media coverage here.
I was interviewed by Swedish TV and radio, German radio and I have been contacted by magazines and press from around the globe. Swedish newspaper Expressen even wrote that I was now “world famous” as their headline, haha! But this is not about me. It is about body image and ideals and how women (and men) are portrayed in our public spaces.
I created the page SwedishMannequins.com on the 20th of March where I hope that the discussion will continue. There you will also find more photos of mannequins, both skinny, normal and plus sized. I hope that you all want to contribute and keep up the discussion and debate.
Let’s hope that more companies will follow! And that we can slowly challenge the unhealthy ideals that currently exist in the fashion and retail industry.
